Workplace based assessments is moving towards entrustable professional activities (EPAs) as the key focus of assessments. Clinical training entrustment decisions, porfolios of learning and high-stakes assessments are increasingly built around EPAs. In South Africa all medical specialist training is moving towards the use of EPAs. Prof Louis Jenkins is leading a national process within Family Medicine to define and develop EPAs for our workplace-based assessment. In this workshop, he will share what we have learnt about designing and developing EPAs for Family Medicine.
Prof Louis Jenkins is a family physician in clinical practice at George Hospital in South Africa. He is a joint staff member in the Division of Family Medicine and Primary Care at Stellenbosch University, as well as an honorary associate professor in the Directorate of Primary Health Care at UCT.
Dr Innocent Besigye will host the workshop. He is a family physician based in the Department of Family Medicine, Makerere University. He supervises registrars in family medicine and is an assistant editor with the African Journal of Primary Health Care and Family Medicine.
