To continuously strengthen PHC, countries must be able to assess how decisions, actions and investments are addressing the broader determinants of health while improving service coverage, financial risk protection, and ultimately the health of individuals and populations. In 2022 WHO published a conceptual framework and a menu of indicators that countries can use and prioritize based on national context and health needs in an approach that is suited to the maturity of its health system. In this workshop we will present a critical view of the conceptual framework and indicators and have a small group exercise in selecting a set of indicators applicable to a specific country’s situation.
Bianca De Sá e Silva is the coordinator at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Family Medicine and Primary Care at Ghent University. She is herself a family doctor and has a MSc in Global Health, with experience in community-oriented care in highly deprived areas, and has a keen interest in health systems strengthening through the improvement of primary care.
Jan De Maeseneer is Head of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Family Medicine and Primary Health Care at Ghent University. He is the previous Chair of the European Forum for Primary Care and current Chair of the Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health for the European Commission. He has been a long term supporter of the PRIMAFAMED network.
