Primary care physicians work within health systems that routinely capture electronic data, district health information management systems, and a growing range of facility-level electronic health records. These data represent a largely untapped resource for primary care research. This workshop will draw on the experience of the International Consortium of Primary Care Big Data Researchers – INTRePID, from 23 countries. Presenters from INTRePID will share practical guidance and local perspectives on how to design, conduct, and publish research using routine electronic health data in diverse primary care settings.
Dr. Karen Tu is a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada and an Adjunct Professor in the International Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She holds a Chair in Family and Community Medicine Research in Primary Care at UHN, is a Research Scientist and Family Medicine Research Lead at North York General Hospital and a practising family physician. Dr. Tu is an international leader in the secondary use of primary care EMR data and administrative data. Triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and the understanding of common challenges worldwide, Dr. Tu created INTRePID, which fosters and facilitates international collaboration, networking, knowledge exchange, mentorship and education for primary care big data research worldwide.
