Multiple choice type questions (MCQs) are commonly used in high stakes examinations in medical education. Many health professional educators (HPE) are not confident in constructing MCQs that are reliable, valid, defensible and fair. The workshop will provide an overview to the process of blueprinting for the examination, constructing the MCQs, standard setting and interrogating the psychometrics and is relevant for educators using this form of assessment.

Mergan Naidoo is an Associate Professor and Academic Leader of Teaching and Learning at UKZN. He is also the Honorary Secretary of the College of Family Physicians and has chaired the MCQ examination committee for many years.

Martha Makwero is a clinical lecturer within the family medicine department at the newly formed Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KuHes) in Malawi. She has contributed immensely to the development of family medicine in Malawi.
