Workplace based assessment is an essential ingredient in “assessment-for-learning” and “assessment-of-learning”, particularly in postgraduate training. Learning needs to be captured in a portfolio, and this should be an electronic portfolio to make aggregation, saturation and triangulation easier to organise and determine. This workshop will explore how to design, develop and implement an electronic portfolio of learning.

Professor Louis Jenkins is joint staff with both Stellenbosch University and University of Cape Town. He is Head of Clinical Unit of the Department of Family and Emergency Medicine at George Hospital. His PhD focused on developing a national portfolio for Family Medicine. He headed up a working group in the National College of Family Physicians who developed entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for postgraduate family medicine training in the country. He also leads the ongoing development and implementation of the national e-portfolio of learning through the Education and Training Committee of the Academy of Family Physicians. He is the chair of the national Clinical Competency Committee tasked to evaluate registrar portfolios prior to sitting the national exit exams. He has a strong interest in and has published on work-based assessment, leadership development, palliative care, and health worker resilience.
